My POV for my #WIP

So I know this is going to sound crazy, but today I realized what perspective I was telling my story. Don’t judge. I’m new to the game. Calm down. The POV I learned I was telling is technically called Third Person Limited which I think is great because it allows me to learn the traps and tips on how best to utilize the POV.

Which made me realize that I need to learn as many technical terms of the trade I can when it comes to storytelling. Don’t worry I’ll try to add a word of the day each post that revolves around writing/publishing that I think you should know or I didn’t know. That way it helps introduce you to those terms you may not know and helps me cement them to memory.

Yet let me say, I didn’t start out writing my book with the thought of “Let me write this book in Third Person Limited POV” but instead I thought let me put this movie in my head to the paper. After writing a few chapters I can say that the book moves roughly like a movie though there is plenty of room for improvement.

I think Third Person POV is great because I have so many minor and secondary characters, as you would in any fantasy, that I would rather show you what people are thinking through actions vs telling you what they are thinking. I just believe it adds more mystery to the plot and allows for the reader to use their imagination more.

Now this isn’t to say I don’t give some insights but it’s limited and my plan is to go back and add as well as the descriptions the main thing I’m trying to complete in my first draft is to tell the story. I just don’t feel like there is any reason for me to add descriptions or motivations till I know definitively where it will lead.

Don’t get me wrong I have an rough outline but I’m expanding it each and every day adding story beats I won’t to hit at certain point but I like that I’m leaving myself the creativity on how to reach those beats.

Before I give the Word of the Day, let me know in the comments below what you POV you are writing in and the benefits and challenges you faced that one might not think about when writing.

Word of the Day

Third Person Limited POV:  In third person limited the narrator only knows the thoughts and feelings of one character. All characters are described using pronouns, such as ‘they’, ‘he’, and ‘she’. But, one character is closely followed throughout the story, and it is typically a main character.
